Hi SPL Brandon here,
I am writing a review about the Community Food Co-op of Utah. I went to volunteer there for the citizenship in the community merit badge. I read an article about the Food Co-op, and it is volunteer run except for two people. The Director's name is Katherine, and she was very nice and helpful.
I worked on Tuesday for two hours in the meat freezer. They keep the tempature at minus 10 C., which is below 20 F. We had to wear a heavy coat, gloves, a hat and heavy shoes. It was a lot of fun, so I went back yesterday to help out. We worked in the freezer again bringing out the boxes of meat so the workers could pack up the orders for this Saturday. My brother Parker and Dad were there too. We will be working for about 4 or 5 hours this Saturday to hand out the food orders.
Also, I found out that the Food Co-op is in need of funds to expand their meat freezer. So they are having a barbecue to raise some money for the freezer to be able to offer more food items. If you would like to go to this barbecue, it is on August 27th from 5PM - 7PM. The location is at the Food Co-op warehouse at 1469 S. 700 W. in Salt Lake City. The Food Co-op asks that you bring a ten dollar donation for the Freezer Fund but it is a free event.
Thanks for reading,
SPL Brandon
